The G.S.P Portal Zinc Plating Kit is designed as a great accompaniment to any workshop. If restorative and decorative work is the order of the day, this kit does a great job of protecting screws, bolts, and other small functional features of motorcycles, bikes, cars, and boats, from corrosion due to weather conditions or age. We know that many vintage enthusiasts want to retain as many original parts as possible when completing restoration jobs, and the ability to do exactly that is what makes our Zinc Plating Kit a fantastic choice.
Popular with small business users, the kit is beginner-friendly and comes with a step-by-step guide to brush plating and pen plating with zinc over a variety of metals such as stainless steel, nickel, brass, and copper.
Alternatively, the kit can also be used for a process we call “mini-tanking”. This is where small items, up to the size of a typical coin, can be individually tank-plated in the pots supplied. This is a great way to plate fiddly or more detailed parts, as it ensures complete coverage without needing to work by eye.
For entry-level plating on a budget, the kit comes with our economy 0.6A Portable Plating Plug for light use, along with our high-quality prep and plating solutions to get the job done.

Overview of use

Here is a general overview of the zinc plating process for bare steel:
Step 1: Polish the steel item.
Step 2: Brush G.S.P Stainless Steel Activator over the item for 1 or 2 passes and then rinse.
Step 3: Brush G.S.P Copper Strike over the item for 2 minutes and then rinse.
Step 4: Brush G.S.P Nickel Plating Solution over the item for 3 minutes and then rinse.
Step 5: Brush G.S.P Nickel Activator Solution over the item for 1 or 2 passes and then rinse.
Step 6: Brush G.S.P Zinc Plating Solution over and over to build thickness.
Step 7: Finish with G.S.P Gold Polish.

Which plating machine is supplied in this kit?
0.6A Portable Plating Plug. This is a dial-operated, selectable voltage plating plug.
Please note that this machine comes with a UK plug - to use in the US or other countries, all that is required is a plug converter - this will convert a UK 3 pin plug into a standard 2 pin mains plug. These are inexpensive and available in hardware stores / online. Your converter does NOT need to be a step up/step down adapter, just a regular converter that can be purchased, to take the US as an example, for around $8.

Is this kit compatible with all Gold Solutions Plating chemicals / solutions?
No, it is not suitable for use with G.S.P Rhodium Solution, G.S.P Tank Gold Solution or G.S.P Platinum Plating Solution. All other chemicals and solutions are compatible.
Does this kit come with the G.S.P 5 Point Support Package?
No

Specifically designed for zinc plating small items only. This kit cannot be used to plate over aluminium.
