Is the kit easy to use?
The electroforming process is very easy, all that you need to know is an accurate surface area size for the item you wish to electroform. Surface area calculators can found online via internet search engines. Full instructions are included with this kit.
Will this harm my jewellery?
No, there are lacquers and latex included in the kit that fully protect any vulnerable materials whilst in the electroforming solution.
Which different copper finishes can I achieve with the kit?
This electroforming kit is aimed at producing 2 styles of copper plating.
Firstly, a rich, antique-style copper finish can be achieved by allowing freshly electroformed items to oxidise. Oxidisation will happen to copper naturally over time if not prevented by the use of lacquer, and will result in an aged appearance that is a popular style with boho jewellery. Oxidisation can be encouraged to happen more quickly by spraying water onto the electroformed parts. Alternatively, a patina (not supplied) can be applied to create the same effect in an even quicker period of time.
Plating in this style will result in unique features and slight variations on each piece, meaning that your customers will own something that is one of a kind.
Alternatively, if you would like to achieve a brighter and fresher copper aesthetic, pieces should be lacquered straight after plating - this seals the pieces and prevents oxidisation from happening.
Please see the product page image of a seashell for a comparison of the finishes that can be achieved.
Can large objects be electroformed with this kit?
No, this kit is designed specifically for electroforming small objects to be incorporated into jewellery or as small ornamental pieces. Common uses include electroformed elements for rings, bracelets or pendants e.g. copper plated leaves which are worn on a chain as a necklace.
If you have a specific object that you would like to copper plate and would like to clarify whether the dimensions are suitable, please get in touch for advice.
For electroforming larger objects in copper or precious metal finishes, please see our G.S.P Prodigy Range.
What is the difference between this electroforming kit and the kits in your G.S.P Prodigy Electroforming Range?
This kit is designed primarily for users that wish to electroform small non-conductive objects to be incorporated onto small pieces of jewellery such as earrings and rings. The tank size provided is generally suited to electroforming things such as small flower heads, the kit is not suitable for larger things such as full size flowers with stems. The kit is also geared to plating in copper only.
The G.S.P Prodigy Range comprises a range of kits with different tank size options to accomodate much larger pieces and batch plating. These kits offer users the option to plate in copper, nickel and 24k gold finishes. Other finishes such as rhodium, rose gold, platinum can be added to these kits on request as an upgrade.
The Prodigy Kits also allow for plating over the majority of metals as well as non-conductive surfaces, so include a whole range of chemicals not supplied in the G.S.P Belle Fleur Copper Electroforming Kit.
The G.S.P Belle Fleur Copper Electroforming Kit is designed to provide users with a shiny copper finish. However, while this kit achieves a respectable level of shine, the G.S.P Prodigy Electroforming Kits deliver an even glossier result which is reflective of commercial standard plating.
Does this kit pose any health risks?
The electroforming solution included is acidic and should be handled with care. Always read and understand the chemical label / labelling on all included products before use and consult the supplied Safety Data Sheets for details on how to stay safe. Safety gloves, mask and goggles must be worn.
Always keep any chemicals away from children and animals and take due care and attention when handling them. This kit should be used by adults of 18 years and above only.
